In the lead-up to Echo 8 Trilogy production, we’re activating rehearsal spaces across Sydney and the Western Suburbs to give our actors the chance to connect and refine their roles. With a blend of online Zoom sessions and in-person rehearsals, we’re striking a balance between creativity and flexibility.
Maria Tran, who stars as Echo 8/Anna and directs the film, has emphasized preparation without being overly demanding on actors' day-to-day lives. These sessions create room for the cast to dive deep into their characters while discussing their own personal journeys.
We’re excited to partner with Maddy & Co Business & Community CoLab in Haberfield. Following Maddy Suy’s passing from DIPG in May, her legacy lives on through this creative space. It has become a sanctuary for artists to produce meaningful work and explore themes close to Maddy’s heart, like love, friendship, and kindness.
Maria reflects, “I can still feel her presence and I strive to be a better creative through my work.”
Elizabeth H. Vu, co-writer of Mighty Maddy’s Mission to the Future, adds, "We are proud to have collaborated with her and still feel her family's support."
These rehearsals are more than just technical practice; they are a space for collaboration and real-life energy exchange. Actor Ashley Avci, who plays the sidekick in the film, shares, "I found it super fun and exciting to start living and breathing as the character." Damien Sato also expressed the value of in-person rehearsals, noting, “Online readings were flat, but in person, you can bounce off each other's energy.”
As we move forward, these spaces are vital for developing characters and building the world of Echo 8. With the support of venues like Maddy & Co CoLab, we’re not just creating a film but honoring a legacy and fostering creativity. Stay tuned for the journey ahead!
